Designing a stand for MWC is not the same as designing one for Alimentaria or Hannover Messe. The sector, visitor profile and the nature of each fair shape every design decision. Here are the strategies that work in each context.
Technology fairs: innovation, interactivity and precision
MWC Barcelona, CES, Mobile Summit, IoT Solutions World Congress
- Minimalist design with high-end finishes (lacquers, acrylic, metal).
- Interactive screens, live demos, AR/VR integration.
- Cool, precise lighting (4000-5000K) that reinforces the technology perception.
- Short, punchy messages: after three days, visitors only remember what surprises them.
Food and beverage fairs: product, tasting and warmth
Alimentaria, Anuga, Sial Paris, Fispal, Salon del Gourmet
- Tasting area that is accessible, visible and well lit.
- Warm materials: natural wood, stone, ceramics, textiles.
- Warm lighting (2700-3000K) to enhance product colour and texture.
- Dedicated space for refrigeration, product display and buyer meetings.
Beauty, fashion and lifestyle fairs
Cosmoprof, Pitti Uomo, Momad, Magic Las Vegas, Intergift
- Boutique aesthetic: meticulous visual merchandising, precise accent lighting per product.
- Colours and finishes perfectly aligned with brand identity.
- Experience zones: product testing, application, personalised advice.
- Designer furniture as part of the brand message.
Industrial fairs: robustness, demonstrations and technical clarity
Hannover Messe, EMO, Metalmadrid, Advanced Factories, SIL
- Robust structure designed to accommodate heavy machinery or large equipment.
- Clear, readable technical signage visible from a distance and in multiple languages.
- Live machinery demonstrations as the centrepiece of the stand.
- Private meeting areas for long-form B2B negotiations.
The golden rule: research your fair before you design
Visit the previous edition if you can, analyse how your direct competitors position themselves, and speak with the organiser to understand technical restrictions and location opportunities. A stand well adapted to its fair context will always outperform a generically attractive one.
